Using FTP with Web Browsers for UTORweb Access

It is possible to access one's UTORweb account from any workstation connected to the Internet through a web browser. There are, however, certain functional limitations to this interface. Below are instructions for three major browsers.

PLEASE NOTE: FTP is an unsecured protocol. This means that any data sent, including your UTORid password, may be intercepted and viewed by third parties

Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer 8

In the address bar type: ftp://individual.utoronto.ca

You will be prompted to log in. Enter the following information.

  • User Name: Your UTORid
  • Password: Your UTORid password

You will then be presented with a list of all files and folders currently hosted on your UTORweb web space.

NOTES:

  • You can only download files through a browser. It is not possible to add files (upload) to your account If you should use another application like Filezilla, see: Uploading files with an FTP client (Filezilla)
  • Firefox and Chrome will keep you logged into your UTORweb account until you close the browser window.
