Instructions for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
1: Check to make sure that the wireless switch is ON on your laptop (this is generally on the front of the computer or on the keyboard. In the case of older laptops, insert the wireless card)
2: Click the Start button, select Control Panel, select Network and Internet Connection, and then Network Connections. Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon. This will bring up the Wireless Network Connection Status dialog box.
3: Click the Change advanced settings button if the Wireless Network Connection window is displayed, or click the Properties button if the Wireless Network Connection Status window is displayed.
4:(a) Select the Wireless Networks Tab.
(b) Make sure the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox is checked.
(c) Click the "Add" button to display the Wireless network properties.
5:(a) Enter UTORwin for Network Name (SSID) [Note the SSID is case sensitive]
(b) Remove the checkmark from the “The Key is provided for me automatically“ checkbox.
(c) Enter "UToronto1home" into both the Network key and Confirm network key fields. [Note: the Network Key is case sensitive]
(d) Set the Network Authentication to Open and Data encryption to WEP.
(e) Click on OK button to complete
6: The UTORwin profile should now be listed under the Preferred networks on your Wireless Network Connection Properties window. Click on the OK button to return to the Wireless Network Connection Status dialog box. Click on the Close button. You have now successfully completed the wireless network configuration.
- To log onto the UTORwin wireless network, start your web browser (Netscape, IE). The UTORwin login page should automatically appear when your browser starts up (if this does not happen, please contact the IC HelpDesk for assistance at 416-978-HELP). Your will need your UTORid and password to log onto the network.
