LDAP in Apple Mail (Mac Mail)


Follow these instructions to set up LDAP in Mac Mail. LDAP is used to access the U of T online email directory when writing e-mail.

Setup 

  1. Open Mac Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences, then click Composing.
  3. In the Addressing section, check the first box, Automatically complete addresses
  4. Click Configure LDAP...
  5. Click the + sign at the bottom left corner of the window.
  6. Enter the following information in the appropriate fields, leaving all others blank:
    • Name: University of Toronto
    • Server: ldap.utoronto.ca
    • Search Base: o=university of toronto,c=ca
    • Port: 389
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click Done.
  9. Close the Preferences window.
  10. Close and restart Mac Mail.

Usage

  1. In Mac Mail, click New Message.
  2. Click To: as you would when writing an email.
  3. Begin typing. Any names in your address book will appear immediately.
  4. A list of names and addresses will appear after a short time, retrieved from the LDAP directory.
  5. Choose the appropriate email address.
