Termination of UTORdial Service Effective September 1, 2009
The UTORdial service was originally established to provide dial-up access to the University’s computing resources at a time when alternative Internet access solutions were not readily available. Since that time, Bell Internet, Rogers Hi-Speed Internet and similar services from other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been introduced. These services provide direct high-speed always-on Internet access for residential and business customers. The widespread availability of these commercial services has reduced the demand for the UTORdial service to the point where it has now become economically impractical for the University to continue to offer its own independent dial-up facilities. Therefore, effective September 1, 2009 the University of Toronto will be discontinuing the UTORdial dial-up modem service.
Please note that the termination of the UTORdial service will not in any way affect UTORmail email accounts.
UTORdial account credits issued as of May 1, 2009 will be the last free tokens issued. Additional tokens will be available for purchase up until August 1, 2009. All tokens must be used before the September 1, 2009 service end-date at which time all unused tokens will expire. There will be no refunds for any unused tokens.
